I went to the Sydney PayPal Developer Days yesterday and have to say I was very very impressed. PayPal is clearly interested in growing their brand in Australia and what better way to do so then giving developers the tools to make PayPal easy to implement for their clients.
Free PayPal Certification
The big drawcard for the PayPal Developer Days is that you get a promotional code that lets you sit the PayPal Certification tests for free. That’s $300 USD worth of value. Given that I’ve been developing some solutions that use PayPal over the past few weeks I would have gone to the conference anyway, but the more I think about it the more I like the idea of being certified. Primarily I’ll be interested in seeing how much new business it can generate.
If you searched Google, you’d find that messed up app icons is a common problem of iPhone’s 3.0 firmware.
Until Apple releases a fix (possibly in firmware 3.1?), there is a quick and easy fix. Everything is done on your iPhone, you don’t need access to your iTunes library.
1) Remove an app that has incorrect icon (preferably one that has no data stored on your iPhone, so you don’t have to worry about losing data).
2) Download and install the app again from App Store.
3) As the application is being installed, hold the power button and turn off your iPhone!
4) Turn your iPhone back on. You would now notice that all application icons are back to normal. The application you were installing is installed as well.
I am very proud to announce that my design proposals are chosen for the rebranding of Yii Framework.
If you don’t already know, Yii is a high-performance component-based PHP framework best for developing large-scale Web applications. Yii comes with a full stack of features, including MVC, DAO/ActiveRecord, I18N/L10N, caching, jQuery-based AJAX support, authentication and role-based access control, scaffolding, input validation, widgets, events, theming, Web services, and so on. Written in strict OOP, Yii is easy to use and is extremely flexible and extensible.
SyntaxHighlighter Plus, a fork of the original SyntaxHighlighter plugin by Viper007Bond was first released on the 16th of December, 2007. For over a year, it has served many WordPress blogs that were having issues with Viper007Bond’s original SyntaxHighlighter plugin which was not being maintained for a very long time before my fork’s initial release.
The fork’s purpose was to address some of the unsolved issues of the original plugin. A few months ago Alex, the original author of the SyntaxHighlighter has released version 2.0 of this wonderful script. It was written from the ground up and has fixed a lot of issues people were having with the old script.
Now, Viper007Bond has released his implementation based on the new code, and has renamed his project to SyntaxHighlighter Evolved. It is also a brand new codebase and it has fixed a number of issues users have reported to both his and my plugins.
The users of both plugins should be excited to see Viper007Bond’s come back, I know I am. :)
As a result of this, I am now abandoning SyntaxHighlighter Plus in favour of Viper007Bond’s SyntaxHighlighter Evolved. If and when the latter project is no longer being maintained, I will fork it again and make sure we, the WordPress users, will always have this wonderful syntax highlighter at our disposal.
I’m pretty sure not many coders would be familiar with Gary Vaynerchuck. At first I thought the guy was a bit up himself but after watching this video I have to say I’m impressed. His product (Wine Library) doesn’t interest me much but his enthusiasm and ability to grow a brand does.
It starts off a bit slow with Loic Lemeur (founder of Seesmic) introducing him but it isn’t long before Gary is spitting out gems like “loving your audience is how you build a business. PERIOD!” (2:36 in the vid).
All up this video should hopefully re-energise, re-motivate and help you focus on your customers and grow your business :)
