Must-have for multiple Gmail attachments – dragdropupload

A lot of you probably already know about this, but if you ever want to do multiple file uploads in Firefox then this Firefox Add On / Extension is for you:

dragdropupload

This Add-On lets you drag a bunch of files from your computer and drop them on a standard file input upload box. If the web site has been built a particular way to allow for multiple upload boxes generated dynamically (such as Gmail), dragging a bunch of files onto the single upload box will automatically generate a whole heap of individual upload boxes. Very neat! :)

This is mega handy when you want to send a whole bunch of pictures to someone via Gmail.

Option selected=”selected” not working?

If you ever have an HTML select that doesn’t want to default to the option you’ve added selected=”selected” to, it may not be a problem in your code. It may be due to Firefox’s behaviour.

Firefox seems to always default to the option selected by a user instead of the option that has the selected=”selected” tag – even on a page refresh (without even first POSTing the data)! Copy and paste the URL into another browser tab/window and it’ll most likely work fine… :)

Internet Explorer doesn’t have this problem (surprisingly).

Firefox on OS X and Linux: Spell Check and Mouse Gestures

Since I fully switched from Windows platform to OS X, I noticed that the spell check in Firefox no longer works. A quick google search revealed that the problem is caused by All-in-One Gestures and persists on both OS X and Linux.

I have been using All-in-One Gestures on Firefox for a very long time (primarily on Windows). Fortunately I only use the two very basic gestures: back and forward, so it’s okay to ditch it and find an alternative.

There are only two alternatives to date: Mouse Gestures and FireGestures. The former has not been updated since 2006 and breaks the spell check at least on my system. So I gave FireGestures 1.0.5 (the current version on the Firefox Extension website) a try, sadly it breaks the spell check too. I then went to the developer’s website and found out that there is a 1.1 dev version, and it has what I have been looking for: [Linux][Mac] Fixed bug: Breaks inline spell checker (Alternative words is not showing).

Downloaded, installed, and sweet, the spell check is back! :)

Macbook Pro arrived, iPhone on its way :)

Last night I stayed up really late doing some usual reading and researching, I think it was 6:00AM that I finally went to bed. 11:00AM this morning, door being knocked, I quickly jumped out of the bed and rushed to the door, yup that’s right, it was TNT Express, my Macbook Pro was arrived. :)

I had been waiting for this moment for so long. Before I got this new Macbook Pro, I design graphics on my Windows XP desktop (Q6600 + 4GB RAM) and do all development work on my 12″ Powerbook (1.33GHz G4, 768MB RAM), trust me, it was a pain. Even the Windows desktop was playing nasty, Photoshop and Illustrator quit on me constantly despite the fact that I keep my computer clean and organised (and virus-free obviously).

It feels so relieved to be working exclusively on the OS X platform, I think my productivity will increase.

Okay, in the last few days I started looking for phones. I currently use a Sony Ericsson S500i as my primary phone and a Nokia N80 (kinda broken) as backup. They’re both 2G phones, so I was going to buy a 3G phone, either Nokia E65 which is free on a $29 cap plan on Three Australia or Nokia N82 outright on Ebay. I was so sure that one of these phones will become my primary phone for the next few months…

Until I hit ‘apple.com’.
